The course at Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate will be the first championship layout in Tanzania and we are already making plans for hosting international and local golf events, tournaments, and club nights.
The golf course is scheduled for completion in December 2012, with many dramatic features emerging as construction proceeds. The extensive system of streams and lakes is also taking shape, adding another dimension to the existing landscape and creating a new habitat for small mammals and birds.
The par for the golf course will be 72, with the traditional mix of four par threes, four par fives, and ten par fours. There will be four sets of tees for each hole, allowing the course to be played from a championship length of around 6,500 metres down to a gentle 5,400. All the greens will be built to USGA specification, which is the accepted standard for high quality surfaces throughout the world. With large greens, subtle changes of elevation, and strategically placed bunkers, the course has been designed to allow all golfers a fair route to the fairways and greens.
The most dramatic holes are those which are integrated with the ponds and streams, particularly the final holes of each nine, which both approach the clubhouse over a large lake. The clubhouse itself will sit slightly raised above the fairway and green levels, providing spectacular views across the course to the surrounding hills and mountains. There will be extensive practice facilities close to the clubhouse.
